This proposed restrictive 12 million acre designation over 6 states to protect a handful of already protected Canadian lynx is a gross overreach by the USFWS and the Biden administration.
Colorado, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Washington and Wyoming would be affected. 400,000 acres of Colorado private property would be within the boundaries as well.
I fully object in every possible way to this proposal.
I support OurAmericanlands 501c3 organization's mission to stop proposals that add restrictions of use and reduced access to public and private lands.
The Canadian lynx introduction was never needed or wanted by a huge majority of the people who live in the areas where they were released.
These types of proposals were rebuffed in Nov 2024 when Colorado clearly said NO to the hunting ban proposal (initiative 127) on big cats.
Even urban folks voted to continue big cat hunting, if nothing else for their own safety when visiting the mountains.
Until local home/property owners, permitted grazing stakeholders and regular users of these public and private lands have a seat at the table, all proposals of type will be met with a hard NO.
All hunters know that introduction of predator species reduces annual harvests of deer and elk for sustaining their own families. This isn't about trophies, it is about lower
and lower numbers of harvestable deer and elk populations. By crowding hunters into smaller available hunting areas, the danger to humans and reduction of successful hunts will get excessive.
By adding or creating protections for predators, it allows for unrestricted procreation of these species that ultimately upsets the balance already controlled by hunting.
